How to Win a Fight With a Conservative is the ultimate survival guide for political arguments

My Liberal Identity:

You are a Social Justice Crusader, also known as a rights activist. You believe in equality, fairness, and preventing neo-Confederate conservative troglodytes from rolling back fifty years of civil rights gains.

Take the quiz at www.FightConservatives.com

And if you’re so inclined: What Breed of Conservative Are You?

I also took a Select a Candidate quiz. It tells you the percentage of your agreement with all the candidates from both parties. I had some problems with some of the questions not having enough possible answers – forcing me to pick the ‘closest’ to my view. But that’s always the way it is with these quizzes.

I wasn’t too surprised with the results. I am in most agreement with Kucinich, but of the two issues we are in disagreement with, one is Iraq, which I think he (and those supporting him) consider pretty important. The other, which I won’t name, the only candidate who agrees with me is Mitt, though I ranked the issue as not very important.

Dodd’s next in line for me, and then there’s a three way tie between Edwards, Clinton, and Obama. I’ll probably look at Dodd a little more closely for the primary, but it is important to me that we Dems select someone who isn’t too weak against the GOP nominee. I know I’ve voted that way in the past 2 elections, but my candidate beat Bush in 2000, and the candidate I voted for in 2004 would have done better than Kerry, I am sure. I’m confident that I share enough views with E, C and O that I would be fine with any of their presidencies.

    “Your Liberal Breed: Peace Patroller
You are a Peace Patroller, also known as an anti-war liberal or neo-hippie. You believe in putting an end to American imperial conquest, stopping wars that have already been lost, and supporting our troops by bringing them home.”

I dispute the slurring association: “neo-hippie” — for many reasons, not the least of which is that I failed to be a hippie when everyone my age and in my social circles was one. Sigh.

In short, I just see Bush and Cheney, and their whole sick crew, as bastards who are perverting a country for which I have deep love and in which I have great faith — although the last four years have shaen my faith in the triumph of peace, jusctice and the American way (in part because they have so grossly distorted the traditional goods of the American way).

Never forget: Bush never won the office of the presidency honestly.

His game stole several states in 2004, and at leats one big one in 2000.

“SHAEN. Sidheán, a fairy hill. Shaen Castle was one of the eight castles built by Lord Roger Mortimer in 1346 as defences for his main castle at Dunamase. According to tradition, these eight castles and Dunamase itself were all destroyed by Laoiseach O’Moore in one night! Shaen castle was subsequently rebuilt, but it was demolished in 1650 by Oliver Cromwell’s army. In the last century, Dean Coote built a fine mansion on the site. Today, this mansion is St. Brigid’s Hospital for old people.” from

One of the absurdities of the WEB? I meant to type “shaken” (and least and justice) above, but my eyes never see what I type, as they are watching the letters I stroke on the keyset.

What should a liberal care about spelling?

It’s obvious that a conservative would care — because every enforcement of an “accepted” spelling carries forward the past, unchanged. For the same reason conservatives may be expected to oppose neologisms of all kinds.

For instance, I thought I was coining terms the other day, using “cybernosis” (and “cybernausea”, too.))

But, I was wrong, apparently. It’s already out there — and MicroSoft (who else?) already has a site using the term organizationally, to descry webification.

    Sigh. Already in use:

This is getting to be absolutely frightening.

Just the emotion that powers conservatism: fear.

Let me say that again, in case you are numb.

    FEAR!!! FEAR!!! FEAR!!!

There. I said it. Could you hear me? Do you understand?

Fear is the emotion of preservation.

All of us so-called liberals are trying to preserve states of the world — the ones that we prefer. We have fear for the survival of those ways of life that we deem “precious” — we even have fear for the survival of the species (aka man) and this fine planet (mother earth under father sky).

All conservatism is a matter of fear.

Therefore, says the fool, the distinction between liberal and conservative resides not in the fear-factor, itself, as the power behind the conservative impulse. Nor, does it reside in the bitterness of fear expressed unreasonably, the process that we call “hate” — for “hate” connects, relationally as a proposition, “fear” with a “source-of-disturbance”. The emotional reasoning thesis says “If I eliminate the source of the disturbance (as it were!), then the disturbance disappears, and I can be happy (untroubled) once again.”

More elaborate disturbance-source elimination mechanisms are possible — as in the similar cases of “displacement” and “distraction”, working on a more visionary focus of “what ought to be the case” when it has not been “true” (“real”) before (as a perceived universal of social reality).

Now, we thus touch, indeed, upon the difference between the liberal and conservative — the conservative has no vision for the future, as the fundamental possibility of evolutionary beneficence. The best of all possible worlds is always in the golden past, according to the conservative mind; to such a mind, the rest of history is the narrative of the fall of man, a free-fall little interrupted, seldom delayed.

The liberal believes the “best is ever yet to be; this day is but the end of life from which it was first meant to be”. (I adapt from some sci-fi writer of the past:
Spiritual Sisters of the Internet Cafe- spiritualsisters.com”Grow old along with me,” says Robert Browning, “the best is yet to be: the last for which the first was meant to be.” But how do relationships help us? …
    http://www.spiritualsisters.com/ruppenthal17.htm.)

    Sigh.

I think I have paid for my collage education, not by a major contribution to an endowed fund, but just in singing the songs of liberals and conservatives.

Once you have lost faith in “the better world that is ever yet to be”, you die and become a conservative ghost — one who is haunting the world, mourning your own death, bemoaning all that you see, for the great sadness that you are no longer taking part in the life of the world that is, so gloriously possible and yet most improbable.

This message is said as aka “Happy Halloween!” The Celts had it right — this is the hour of transition, the only day of the year when the ghosts of the dead may roam the earth, to look upon the living and to moan their own losses. “Happy” is he who yet can honor the dead by not joining the dead, in their woes, in their hates, in their fears of living in the world!

Translation: “Happy Halloween!” means “Live with the liberals or Die with the Conservatives!”))
