If there’s any reason to Impeach Cheney — it’s this!

Some might say there are several reasons one might wish to impeach Cheney.

However, in my opinion, one overrides them all:

The constitutional issue must be addressed.

What? You don’t want to follow my link?

OK. As everyone knows, the Senate presides over an impeachment trial.
And the Vice President presides over the Senate.

There is one exception, when the President is tried, because it has been foreseen that there would be a conflict of interest.

But since the language was written back in the days when the Vice President did nothing. No one foresaw there would ever be a desire to impeach the Vice President. So no exception is written for this case. Cheney would preside over his own impeachment trial.

And there’s only one way this situation will be fixed.

    Cute, but no cigar!

(Especially not even a good 5-cent one, as a Vice President once sagely opined: “What this nation really needs is a good 5-cent cigar.” Rhetorically, the remark destroyed the effects of the speeches of many Senators, all declaiming and yet clamoring to say what this nation really needed!)

Eh, the custom of the Senate would be recusal. A Senator facing trial in the Senate, for any reason, should recuse himself from official acts relative to the trial. If a presiding officer is indicted then, the presiding officer must step aside, temporarily.

Senate rules may also provide evidence of regularity for this recusal process, but I haven’t time to read what is said in the so-called book of Senate Ethics.

You are right, though, the Founders semed to have been short-sighted.

Nor, after Vice President Burr shot ex-Treasury Secretary Hamilton, was the problem corrected, by amendment. See http://www.newyorker.com/archive/2004/06/07/040607ta_talk_mcgrath wherein it is noted that the 203rd anniversary of this event is July 11!!!

Maybe it is time for a rematch (what ex-Cabinet Officer has the courage to duel with Cheney, in an affair of honor??? Everyone knows Cheney hunting is dangerous.

Still, impeach the two together, since Bush couldn’t even talk to the 9-11 commission by himself without his puppetmaster steering him. Pinocchio was more independent of Gepetto than Bush is of Cheney!
